“Superb orchestral evocation”: concert review

Making his third appearance of the season at the Bournemouth Pavilion, Maxime Tortelier conducted Mozart’s Figaro overture, Brahms’s Haydn variations, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 and accompanied the distinguished pianist John Lill in Beethoven’s Emperor concerto.
He was praised by Mike Marsh of the Dorset Echo for his “persuasive direction”, his “flowing musicianship” and in particular for his “superb orchestral evocation” of 1812.
